Madeline Hunter Lesson Plan

Madeline Hunter's lesson plan design has definitely helped me understand how to write clear and helpful lesson plans. I really like how it makes the teacher think very far ahead of the class and organizes the thinking so it could be easily understood by other teachers or principals.

The hard parts for me are the learning standards. I looked online at some of the Missouri learning standards and it was very detailed. Picking one and making sure I am actually teaching the correct thing is like a puzzle. The easy parts would be the teaching part. Giving the information to the students. I also am very familiar with modifications. I have worked with many teachers who are excellent at doing them.

The check for understanding is probably the most important to students. Seeing that they are learning the material. Checking with a 1,2,3,4 system. 4 being that they could teach it to another student. 1 being "please help me."

  1. I agree with you about learning standards. It is hard to know what learning standards you need to focus on. Off the top of my head we have 10 primary learning standards. My teacher has a binder for each of these standards. Our students are scored on a level of 0 to 4. O means that they can not do it at all and 4 means that they have mastered this skill. These vary from knowing all 11 colors to knowing their primary shapes Circle, Square, Rectangle, and Triangle, to get a 4 they most know all 52 letter this means upper and lower case letters, rote counting to 25, one for one counting to 10, writing 0-10, and writing their first name using upper and lower case letters the correct way. There are also some standards that fall along the line of social development which can be a little harder to score sometimes.

  2. The teaching standards were super confusing for me when I was following along because there are so many categories! I really like how it’s planned out though, I’m a list type of person so the layout would be ideal for me when it comes to planning things in advance! It shows me where I’m going to start and where I’ll end up and all the important stuff in the middle.

  3. They are confusing! I think we might spend some time unpacking them.
